Singapore Land Authority vs. Virtual Map (streetdirectory.com)

http://www.todayonline.com/articles/156564.asp

Who do you think will win eh?

Karma? This is just a ’sooner or later’ thing. For the past few years, Virtual Map (VM) has made the news for sueing several companies including NTUC Income for copyright infringement and all.

Some time ago, I even read some where that this guy started a small website for his business, the web designer he hired used one of streetdirectory.com’s maps on his website and this attracted the fury of VM and proceeded to demand him to pay for the damages. He’s unable to pay up and ended up ceasing the business operations before going bankrupt.

This was just like a day after SLA launched their StreetMap@Singapore service so that’s probably the main reason. If SLA wins this lawsuit, streetdirectory.com’s future will be very bleak indeed.

The most popular cameras in Flickr; Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, Canon PowerShot SD400 (most popular point & shoot camera) and the Sony Ericsson K750i (most popular cameraphone). Very useful information indeed.

Spider-man 3 Movie Trailer

Spider-man 3 Movie, slated to be released 4 May 2007. Found this pretty awesome movie trailer on YouTube. So from what I can see, there’ll be 3 villians that will be making an appearance in the third film; Sandman, Green Goblin and Venom (at the very end).

State of the Singapore blogosphere whatever

Blah. This hiatus turned out longer than I expected. So ya, I sold the domain name (http://click.sg/) to the guy behind Singhost and lost all the readers.

I started Blogging Singapore hoping it’ll be some sort of community blog where everyone write about Singapore with absolute freedom. As long as you’ve written it, we’ll publish it. Obviously, it never really took off.

Immediately, I can identify 2 of the main problems.

  1. Whatever Singapore-centric site that launches from now on will definitely play second fiddle to grand daddy Tomorrow.sg.
  2. Everyone’s selfish.

“So you’ve launched yet another new community blog?”

“Ya, I’m hoping everyone can contribute…”

“But why would I want to write on your blog? I would rather write on MINE.”

“Cos..”

“And there’s already Tomorrow! I submit my stuff and if it gets published, my blog gets tons of traffic. Do your stupid new ‘community’ blog even got any traffic?”

“This stifles OUR creativity, we need alternatives!”

“Who the hell needs alternatives with no traffic? Just fuck off bitch!”

With all that said, I present you guys…

This is not the end of Blogging Singapore, this is just the beginning. :D

Obviously inspired by Reddit, where everyone is invited to submit their favourite Singapore news, stories and have everyone else vote on them.

Behold 2sg.org

A community moderated news site about Singapore. YOU are the editor, you decide what’s interesting and what’s not.

Be sure to take a look at the help page if you’re not sure how 2sg.org works.

A project I’ve worked on for a couple of weeks with Neville, obviously inspired by Reddit. It’s real easy to register and start submitting stories so be sure to check it out.

For now, you can send any feedback and questions via this contact form.

Movie Review: Colic

http://www.colicthemovie.com/

Story of a baby who is somehow able to ’see’ ghosts and something bad is bound to happen when he starts crying. By the way, the translation for the movie is terrible;

“Don’t let him out of your site.”

“Don’t cry my little angle.”

The above passages may contain spoilers.

Most unproductive morning ever

So I passed my Motorcycle Practical 5 couple of days back and to proceed to Practical 6, I had to apply for a Provisional Driving License (PDL). I already got a PDL while learning driving, so I was told all I had to do was to go get it endorsed at the traffic police office, in person.

Since I’m such a busy and influential person, the only time I can spare from my hectic schedule is Saturday. So I went for breakfast and arrived at the driving school at around 9am. I took a queue number and was about to take a seat when the auntie at the counter hollered at me, while pointing at a sign.

SYSTEM DOWN
VERY SORRY
ALL TRANSACTIONS TEMPORAY UNAVAILABLE

“I’m not sure how long before it’ll be fixed, maybe a while, maybe will take more time.”

So I decided to wait, since it’ll probably be fixed in a while since the counter auntie said so. I sat on the bench, plugged in my iPod (obviously listening to my all time favourite singer, Britney Spears!) and whipped out my mobile (obviously playing my all time favourite game, Spongebob Squarepants Adventures!).

The wait wasn’t so bad initially, but after like 3 hours of waiting, even with my favourite Britney Spears and Spongebob Squarepants, really buay tahan.

Sitting beside a guy with an epilepsy problem or something doesn’t make the whole thing any better. Almost throughout the entire time he was sitting there, he was shaking his foot like he was at some amusement park or something, and the whole bench gyrated along with him all the while.

Bloody hell.
